Rally For Adam

In my July reflection ABC Backwards, I shared the story of my friend Steve who became a quadriplegic at age 19. Steve did an incredible job of creating a purposeful life for himself after his tragic accident. What I didn’t share with you was that Steve had significant financial help to give him a kick-start on living a fairly independent life. In this month’s reflection, I am making a special appeal for your help in giving another young man, who became a quadriplegic, a much needed helping hand.

Just over one year ago, a young 20 year old from my church, Adam Mogg, was involved in a life changing car accident, resulting in him becoming a quadriplegic. We are now fundraising for a Trust Fund that will help buy Adam a wheelchair accessible, customized van. This will allow him to do some things most of us take for granted. It’s a very expensive endeavour, and we have set a goal of raising $60,000, hopefully more.

I know, from first-hand experience with my dear friend Steve, how important a customized van is for a quadriplegic. Steve’s van allowed him to drive to SFU to earn a business degree, which in turn, enabled him to land a job with the Canada Revenue Agency. That job required him to drive downtown every day. All daily activities took Steve so much longer than it did for the average person. Without the special van, Steve’s life would have been even more painfully slow and greatly diminished. I know the same will be true for Adam.

How Can You Help?

Rose Mary and I are committed to this fundraising need for Adam and have set a target of raising $20,000 of the total goal of $60,000. We are faithfully asking for a “Little Help From Our Friends” to make this happen. Rose Mary and I will contribute half of the $20,000 and if 100 of you give $100 each, we could easily attain our target. What an impact we could all make in Adam’s life!
