Our Son Chris

It is with great sorrow that I am sending you this email. Our son, Chris tragically died on Friday, September 15th around 8pm. Chris was almost 25 years old and had just celebrated his one-year wedding anniversary with his beloved wife Marie. I have attached a picture that I took of them at our home on their actual anniversary, September 10th.

Chris had become an avid hunter and, unfortunately, it was this love for the outdoors that ended in a terrible off-road truck accident.

Rose Mary and I have been OVERWHELMED by the love poured out on us and Marie from so many people from all parts of our lives. Food, flowers, prayers and hugs…it truly has been amazing! We would not have held up as well as we have if we didn’t feel the incredible love from so many of you. Thank you.

We have shed many tears. We grieve the physical loss of Chris. We grieve the loss of, potentially, many happy years of his marriage to Marie, who we love so, so, so much! We grieve the loss of never enjoying the blessing of having grandchildren from Chris and Marie.

I grieve no more skiing with Chris at Whistler; no more father-son hockey games played together; no more “hey dad, please record the Seahawks and I’ll come over and watch it with you”; no more talking about the growth of his framing business that he started 15 months ago.

Rose Mary won’t have the joy of cooking Chris’ favourite home-made lasagne; she will miss her big hugs from him and just looking into and kissing his beautiful face. Obviously, the list goes on and on.

On the other hand, we choose to do our best to focus on all the good. We are confident of Chris’ eternal life with his Father in heaven. We thank God for sustaining us during these very trying times. We remember the joy Chris brought to our lives. We get to experience the love of so many people who care for our family. We will always have a special relationship with Marie, even if it won’t be the same as we thought it would be.

We are hosting Chris’ funeral at the church where we dedicated him to God when he was a young child.
